Oceanside / Maxwell Mountain is a coastal ridge-soaring site on the Oregon (Tillamook) Coast, a rounded hill above the village facing the Pacific (roughly W/WSW). It works on onshore flow: ideal is W to SW. Multiple sources note pilots regularly soar and land on the beach on SOUTHWEST wind days in fall, winter and spring, confirming SW as the prime direction; W is also reliably flyable, and S becomes cross/marginal. Best as a coastal ridge-lift/soaring site rather than thermal. Hosts the annual Oceanside Open free-flying competition (usually April). Hazards typical of the Oregon coast: rapidly shifting/strengthening onshore wind and frequent showers, rotor and venturi/compression near the rounded hilltop and offshore rocks, and gradient/overdevelopment if the marine flow ramps up. Note the nearby Cape Lookout launch (a different, much more dangerous site for experienced pilots only) catches more N/NW flow. Specific numeric wind-speed limits were not found in an authoritative club/USHPA guide (alpenglow.org pages were unreachable due to TLS cert errors), so the ideal 10-18 mph / max ~22 mph / gust ~25 mph ranges are inferred from typical coastal ridge-soaring practice and the paraglidingEarth S/SW/W orientation, not a published spec. Verify current conditions and access/regulations with the local club and the Oceanside Open organizers before flying.
