Barry's Launch on Peters Mountain (Monroe County WV / SW Virginia border), a ~30-mile NW-facing ridge. Launch faces roughly W/NW; paraglidingEarth orientation octants are N and NW, so ideal flow is from the NW (centered ~315 deg) with W and N as the workable edges. CRITICAL: a venturi at the launch makes actual on-launch wind notably stronger than the valley forecast — local pilots generally do NOT launch if winds are forecast over about 7 mph. This is a light-wind thermal/soaring/XC site, not a strong-wind ridge-soaring site; many long XC flights have started here, reaching New Castle VA and as far as North Carolina. Landing options exist on both sides of the ridge. Best in light NW flow with good thermal cycles (mid-day). Speed limits given here are conservative forecast-based numbers reflecting the venturi amplification, not on-launch readings. ACCESS: private property owned by Barry Rich — you MUST contact the landowner for permission before flying (jennyandbarry@ymail.com; see sites.google.com/view/barrys-launch). No explicit USHPA rating requirement found, but XC/thermal nature and private-site etiquette imply intermediate (P3) or higher with launch sign-off.
