What we look for at Mollies Nipple (Hurricane- St.George)

Wind direction

WSW (240°) → WNW (300°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

8–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Long west-facing ridge-soaring site above Hurricane Valley (~4,400 ft), a good winter site that often blows out in summer. Look for west winds; it goes cross on the SSW and NW edges. It earns the Hurricane name — midday venturi/thermal wind can get strong, so the sweet spot is the evening glass-off (many pilots fly Zion by day, then this at sunset). The big LZ directly below launch is gone, so know your small-field landings. Launch is hard to find in a maze of dirt roads; high-clearance/4WD helps. PG pilots, bring a tarp to keep debris out of your lines.
