What we look for at Soboba

Wind direction

SSW (200°) → WSW (250°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

8–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Southwest-facing site above San Jacinto (~2,200 ft) with over 300 flyable days a year. Ideal is 8-15 mph from the SW; use the lower 1,450 ft launch in lighter 5-7 mph wind. S through W works, but more than ~45 degrees off ruins the flight, and any east/Santa Ana wind puts the whole site on the lee - deadly. P2 minimum, P3 to fly unrestricted.
