Wind direction
SSW (202°) → W (270°)
The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.
Ideal speed
6–15 mph
Ceiling · Paragliding
≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23
Top of the range for paragliding (any rating) — switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.
High-desert mountain launch (~5,800 ft) on the north side of Anza Valley, Riverside County. The flank faces roughly SW toward the valley flats, so SW-W is the working wind; anything with a N/NE/E component is over the back with rotor. Thermic and soarable when valley winds stay light, best mid-morning to early afternoon before the valley wind and overdevelopment build. Backcountry dirt-road access; confirm current rules with local SoCal pilots. Wind numbers are unconfirmed estimates.
