What we look for at Prairie Peak

Wind direction

NW (315°) → NE (45°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

7–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Mid-Coast-Range site (~3,400 ft) listed by the Cascade Paragliding Club, but the club's site guide currently marks it CLOSED — confirm access before planning a flight. North-facing launch that works best in light N/NW/NE flow; a south component sits behind launch and risks rotor and lee conditions. Marine air can build fast by mid-afternoon, so fly earlier. Intermediate coast-range mountain site.
