What we look for at Don Pedro Lake

Wind direction

W (270°) → NNW (340°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

6–14 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Obscure, poorly documented spot in the low western Sierra foothills above Don Pedro Reservoir near La Grange - no site guide or pilot reports found, so treat direction and speeds as unverified. Terrain is low rolling grass/oak hills that would work on the afternoon up-valley breeze (roughly W to NW). Central Valley summers are brutally hot and thermic, so late spring/fall or early and late in the day are best. Land access is unknown - verify LZs and permission locally before committing.
