Cronin Park = Cronan Ranch (West) launch in Cronan Ranch Regional Trail Park, Pilot Hill/Coloma CA, home site of Paraglide Coloma and used by American River Free Flight (ARFF) pilots. Small foothill walk-and-fly / training site: ~356 m takeoff, ~60 m vertical, local soaring with small thermals; NOT an XC site. Faces the S-through-NW quadrant (orientation octants S,SW,W,NW); ideal core is SW-W, marginal at the S and NW edges where it goes cross. Best as a light-wind thermal/soaring site, so prefer mellow speeds (~5-12 mph); foothill thermal cycles make midday gusty, so morning and late-afternoon glass-off are best. Site is NOT officially rated but recommended for P3/P4; a local-pilot site intro is REQUIRED before flying. MAJOR HAZARD: landing in the South Fork American River is potentially fatal - avoid the river at all costs. Shared multi-use park (hikers, bikers, equestrians) - be respectful; day-use only, access via Pedro Hill Rd or Magnolia Ranch trailheads off Hwy 49. NOTE: no club/USHPA-published explicit wind-speed or gust limits were found online - the speed/gust figures here are inferred from the site type (small thermal/training hill) and should be confirmed with a local pilot.
