High-altitude Carson Range site on Slide Mountain near Reno/Mount Rose (launch ~8,200-8,280 ft MSL, ~3,000+ ft above LZ near 5,100 ft). The Hang Gliding Files documents the primary, more-flown launch as WEST-facing; however the paraglidingEarth orientation hint (NE,E,SE,S) points to the east-side launch, so this window is built around that east/southeast aspect: ideal core E through SE (~75-150 deg), marginal at NE and due-S edges. Strong, turbulent, thermic mountain site - rated H3/P3 or higher; paraglider pilots are advised extreme caution or to avoid it due to high winds and rotor potential. Wire help recommended in anything more than a light breeze. Best season spring through fall (road can be snow-closed in winter); morning to early-afternoon generally smoother before midday thermal cycle gets rowdy at altitude. Take cold-weather gear, radio, hydration, and consider supplemental oxygen given the elevation. Access: paved Mount Rose Ski Bowl Hwy to launch requires a US Forest Service permit; step over the highway guardrail to reach a steep launch slope of loose dirt, rocks and sagebrush. LZ is a large grassy field (slight NW-to-SE downslope) crossed by drainage ditches. Speed limits are inferred from typical mountain-launch/thermic guidance, not an explicit club number - treat max base/gust figures as conservative estimates.
