Rainbow Ridge is an E/SE-facing ridge in the hills on the west side of the Reno/Truckee Meadows area, NV (~5577 ft MSL). It appears on paraglidingmap.com and paraglidingEarth, but no local club/USHPA guide with explicit numbers was found, so speeds/gust limits are inferred from the E,SE orientation and general Reno-area high-desert soaring knowledge (medium confidence). Best window: works on an easterly to southeasterly flow (wind FROM ~80-150 deg). Marginal/cross at ENE (~60) and SSE (~170); a NE or S wind goes cross-to-lee. Because the site faces E/SE while prevailing Reno valley flow is often W/SW, soarable on-shore conditions can be limited and may be a morning/anabatic or convergence/glass-off phenomenon rather than synoptic wind. HAZARDS: classic high-desert Sierra-front terrain — strong, punchy midday thermals, rapid over-development/cycle-up, and lee-side rotor/turbulence if the wind backs to W/SW or strengthens. Density altitude at 5577 ft means higher true airspeed/groundspeed than the indicated mph. BEST TIME: smooth morning conditions or the evening glass-off; midday can be overpowering and thermic. Treat midday speeds above ~18 mph base / ~22 mph gust as no-go for this elevation and terrain. Access/rating unverified — assume P3/H3+ intermediate-plus and confirm landowner/club rules and current conditions with the local Reno club before flying.
