What we look for at Day Dreams

Wind direction

SSW (210°) → WNW (285°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

10–15 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

Paragliding-only ridgetop launch above Crystal Bay/Kings Beach on Lake Tahoe (7274 ft), reached by a 25-30 min hike (the road is gated). Flies on SW and W at 10-15 mph; treat 15 as the practical ceiling because the small rocky launch and punchy thermals make stronger air hazardous - be ready to reverse-launch. Long glide to the Secline Beach LZ behind the Transam gas station; the old Kings Beach LZ is closed, so land at Secline and clear the wing quickly. An experienced-pilot site.
