What we look for at Heavener SW Launch

Wind direction

SSW (200°) → WSW (250°)

The wind must blow from within this arc. Direction is the same for both wings.

Ideal speed

4–10 mph

Ceiling · Paragliding

≤ 19 mph base · gusts ≤ 23

Top of the range for paragliding (any rating). Switch wings up top to compare. Hang gliders hold roughly 10 mph more than paragliders.

The paraglider-friendly roll-off launch at Heavener (Buffalo Mountain Flyers), facing SW — the SE cliff is HG-only. Ideal wind is SW around 7 mph, usable to 12 with gusts to 15; P2 minimum. Avoid NW cross wind, which throws rotor that can push you into the trees. Private land, so contact the site coordinator for access; the LZ is a cattle pasture with a barb-wire fence on the west side, and there's no shade at launch.
