Buffalo Mountain Flyers (USHPA chapter) site guide gives explicit numbers for the SW launch. Ideal wind direction 225 (SW); acceptable/marginal arc 190-270. The SW launch is the PG-friendly easy roll-off (the SE/SSE cliff launch is HG-only). PG: ideal ~7 mph, max usable 12 mph with peak gusts to 15 mph; gust differential limit 5 mph in 5 seconds. P2 minimum rating. Hazards: rotor forms when wind crosses at stronger velocity from the NW (can push pilots down into trees) - avoid NW cross. Spring/summer pop-up thunderstorms; summertime evening winds can ramp up rapidly; possible katabatic winds late evening; mild turbulence approaching the headwall. Best in stable morning, evening, or overcast conditions. Private land - contact site coordinator Britton Shaw for access; SW LZ is a cattle pasture with cows, tall grass, scattered trees, and a barb-wire fence on the west boundary. No shade at launch; summer days very hot.
