Buffalo Mountain near Talihina, OK (Ouachita Mtns), managed by Buffalo Mountain Flyers (USHPA chapter). Multiple S-facing launches whose arcs combine to cover SE-S-SW: East Slope ideal 180 deg (range 170-210), Middle Cliff ideal 165 deg (range 145-185), West Slope ideal 180 deg (range 150-180). Combined ideal arc ~145-210 deg. Ideal wind ~5-10 mph (East Slope ideal 7 mph); ramps to 12-15 mph base for P3, up to 18 mph base / 11 mph gust for hang gliders. PGs much more conservative: smooth winds 8 mph or less, gusty winds 5 mph or less, gust differential max 5 mph in 5 sec / peak gusts under 15 mph. Hazards: spring/summer pop-up thunderstorms; summer evening winds can ramp up rapidly; possible late-evening katabatic flow; rotor behind the dirt road above launch; mild turbulence near the headwall in higher winds. Middle Cliff should NOT be flown in light winds. Best in stable conditions: morning, evening, or overcast days. Access: 4-mile dirt road accessed just west of the Choctaw Indian Hospital grounds. Rating/site protocol: first 5 flights guided by an H4/H5 or experienced USHPA instructor; thereafter guided by H3+; launches require P2 FL/P3/H2 FL/H3 depending on launch (Middle Cliff is P3 FL CL / H3 FL CL or wire-assist).
