Grandeur is a high-altitude (6122 ft) Wasatch mountain thermal/XC site near Salt Lake City; P3 rating required (P2 only under direct instructor supervision). It has three west-facing lower launches with overlapping windows: Upper North works WNW-WSW (ideal 6-8 mph, max 9, gust limit 5; ~80% climb-out, steeper/rockier), North works NW-SW (ideal 5-8 mph, max 9, gust limit 6; easiest, wide flat setup, ~50/50 climb-out), and South works W-SW (ideal 5-7 mph, max 9, gust limit 5; best aligned with LZ). The ideal overlap is W to SW (~247-293 deg); marginal edges run from SSW (~202) around through NW toward N (~340), consistent with the N,SW,W,NW orientation hint. Best flown as a midday thermal site though midday thermic turbulence is strong and should be avoided by P2 pilots; light north flow aloft enables a Wasatch tour with evening landing at the POM North flight park. Hazards: midday thermic turbulence, strong/shifting upper-level winds, and rotor when thermals track off to the side or behind launch. Steep ~1-mile, ~1300 ft hike; no emergency services; Great Basin rattlesnakes active spring/fall. Restricted Eastwood Elementary LZ on school grounds - not usable during school hours or when occupied. USHPA + UHGPGA membership required.
