West-facing launch above Bountiful/Centerville (~6,344 ft). Per the UHGPGA (USHPA chapter) site guide, the primary West Launch is P2/H2 and works NW through SW (ideal ~225-315 met, centered on W 270). Ideal wind 5-7 mph, max usable 10 mph, with low gust tolerance (~4 mph spread, i.e. keep gusts under ~10-11 mph) for the P2 rating. A separate North Launch works NNW-N but is P4/H4 only. Check Centerville West or West Bountiful (WindAlert) readings; should be 10 mph or less for P2. HAZARDS: N or S winds produce cross-ridge rotors and wind shadows; wind shadows in the drainage below cause sink (tendency to drag feet through treetops on light days); strong rotors near the windsock knoll have caused mishaps on thermic days; transmission lines/towers between launch and LZ; active gun range below (watch red flag); GA aircraft and VFR transition routes/airways overhead as low as ~6,000 ft. BEST TIME: morning launches before thermal activity intensifies, or evening for smooth thermodynamic lift. ACCESS: 3.6-mi winding dirt road, 4WD recommended (2WD if clear/dry), may close Nov-Apr. USHPA + UHGPGA membership required.
